Tile Guide

Tiles are made with natural materials like sand, clay, and stone. Tiles are super durable and are resistant to heat and moisture. Not only that, but tiles are considered a green product for homeowners that are environmentally conscious. As far as design goes, tile is also customizable to your taste. It comes in different sizes, colors, and gloss finishes. Changing the traditional way a tile is laid can also be a way that it allows for more customization. Whether you envision bright colors, neutrals, or a combination of both, tile is a material that gives you creative freedom.

Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Different Types of Tile

We have three main tile options to choose from including: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Most tile is made from ceramic, porcelain, or stone. Both ceramic and porcelain tiles are most commonly seen in homes and businesses. They are made from the same materials, but because porcelain is heated at a higher temperature, it is more durable and water resistant than ceramic. Both types of tile come in an array of colors, styles, and patterns to choose from. Ceramic is a more lightweight option and is also budget friendly. We also have natural stone options that add a unique and natural look to your home, and when sealed correctly they are resistant to stains and water. Stone tiles are commonly used for outside patios and when a design uses principles in nature because they are taken from materials like granite, marble, and slate.

Where can Tile be Installed?

The room in which you plan on installing tile can determine the type of tile you need for your project. Many tile options can work well for your floors, but when it comes to tile on your walls, you want to choose either a ceramic option or backsplash tile. If you wish to install tile outside, choose porcelain or stone because of their water resistance and resistance to heat.
